Natural veneer is a thin layer of real wood featuring an authentic and beautiful grain pattern. It is primarily used as a high-end decorative facing material to cover substrates like MDF, plywood, and particleboard. Introduced as a sustainable alternative to solid wood at the beginning of the 19th century, natural veneer quickly became a staple in premium furniture production and architectural millwork.

Types of Veneer Cuts

The visual characteristics, size, and texture of the veneer sheets depend heavily on the wood species, the specific traits of the individual log, and the slicing method applied.

Depending on the direction of the cut relative to the wood's growth rings, our veneer is classified into three main types. Each type possesses unique and easily recognizable grain patterns.

Radial (Quarter Cut)
The growth rings appear as straight, parallel lines across the entire surface of the sheet. The medullary rays (ray fleck) are highly visible as distinct stripes covering at least ¾ of the sheet's area.
Semi-radial (Rift Cut)
The growth rings appear as parallel lines covering at least ¾ of the sheet's area, while the medullary rays show up as slightly inclined or longitudinal stripes covering at least half of the sheet's area.
Tangential (Crown Cut / Flat Sliced)
The growth rings form distinct arches, curves, or iconic "cathedral" patterns in the center, and the medullary rays appear as longitudinal or inclined strokes.
